Lauri Harris has over 30 years of cheerleading experience. A graduate from Sacramento State University with a major in communications and a minor in business, she was a member and captain of the dance and cheer teams at Sac State. Harris returned to Sac State as the cheer coach and spirit director taking the program to their first nationals for UCA in Orlando, Florida, in 2000. She started working for UCA as a summer instructor and then moved into a full‐time role with Varsity, where she served as the regional manager for the West Coast for 25 years. She then transitioned from Varsity to the executive director for USA Cheer, the national governing body for cheer. Harris has extensive experience in community and philanthropy programs, and youth initiatives. She has helped with the production of special performances including at the Pro Bowl and halftimes at UW, Sac State and the NBA. One of her main initiatives is the new emerging sport of stunt. As the director she is working with colleges, high schools and clubs to implement this groundbreaking new sport for cheerleading to open up more opportunities for female athletes.
