Deputy Director of Athletics, Pepperdine University
As the Deputy Director of Athletics at Pepperdine University, Karina Herold is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the athletics department including external operations, facilities operations, business operations and compliance, as well as the student-facing units of academic support, leadership development, sports medicine, sports performance, mental health, and diversity and inclusion. In addition, Herold oversees five sports, including women’s indoor volleyball, women’s beach volleyball, men’s volleyball, women’s tennis, and men’s tennis and serves as the department’s senior woman administrator. Before joining Pepperdine, Herold was the sports and entertainment sales director for the Los Angeles Sports & Entertainment Commission (LASEC) where she was responsible for attracting major sporting and entertainment events to the Los Angeles area by fostering relationships with area colleges and universities and appropriate governing bodies and leagues. Prior to her time at LASEC, Herold was a governance intern at the NCAA. Herold attended the University of California, San Diego where she earned her bachelor’s degree in human development and was a basketball student-athlete. She later went on to each her MBA and Master of Science in Sport Management degree from the Mark H. McCormack Department of Sport Management at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
