Greg Sankey is one of the most influential and forward-thinking leaders in college sports. Throughout his decade-long tenure as commissioner of the Southeastern Conference, he has worked with member institutions to shape the future of college athletics while preserving the deep traditions that define the SEC’s identity. Under his leadership, the SEC has emerged as a national model for innovation, collaboration and competitive excellence.  

Since assuming the role of commissioner on July 1, 2015, Sankey has overseen a pivotal period marked by historic media partnerships, conference expansion, national championships and a consistent commitment to student-athlete development. Under his leadership, the SEC secured a landmark 10-year media rights deal with Disney, oversaw the addition of Oklahoma and Texas as member schools, and played a key role in restructuring the College Football Playoff. 

Before becoming commissioner, Sankey spent more than a decade in leadership roles within the SEC office, including serving as associate commissioner for governance, executive associate commissioner and chief operating officer. Before joining the SEC, he spent nearly seven years as commissioner of the Southland Conference. Prior to that, he was the director of compliance and academic services and the head men’s golf coach at Northwestern State University.
